Event Info: Visit to Co. Wicklow to see Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Red Kites. Group will meet at the County Hall, Portlaoise at 9am sharp to car-pool.

Event Info: ‘Whittled Away‘ Launch event & ‘Green Drinks’. Pádraig Fogarty will be discussing his new book ‘Whittled Away: Ireland’s Vanishing Nature‘ and journalist & TV Presenter, Ella McSweeney, will be introducing Pádraig Fogarty at the event.

Copies of ‘Whittled Away‘ will be available for purchase on the night of the event and can also be purchased online at www.collinspress.ie

Where: Lough Boora Discovery Centre

Event Info: “Wetland plant identification on rehabilitated cutaways and the use of plant species as ecological indicators” workshop will be taking place in Lough Boora, Co. Offaly.

The NBDC has stated on their website that:

“This course is aimed at individuals interested in peatland/wetland plant identification and ecology particularly those working in the environmental field and anybody else with a general interest.

The course will be led by the Bord na Móna Ecology Team at Lough Boora Discovery Park, Co. Offaly. The Ecology Team comprises team members, Dr Mark McCorry, David Fallon and Barry O’Loughlin, whose main role is to plan and manage cutaway bog rehabilitation. The workshop will start with a short indoor introductory session.

The workshop will then move outside where a range of different habitat types on cutaway bog will be explored including wet and dry areas, and areas with peat or with exposed glacial materials.  This course will aim to help participants improve their plant identification skills, including rushes, sedges and aquatic species, using field guides, keys and hand lens.  This course will also focus on the use of plants as ecological indicators in a peatland cutaway landscape.

Event Info: Evening walk in Phoenix Park. Group will meet at the Interpretive Centre, Knockmaroon Gate at 7.30pm sharp.

Where: Jamestown Nature Reserve, Wexford.

Time: 10am – 4pm

Event Info: Workshop taking place hosted by Jamestown Nature Reserve and ran by the National Biodiversity Data Centre called ‘Insects for Beginners’. The workshop will aim to provide people with the identification skills needed to I.D. insects in Ireland. This workshop is for beginners and intermediate insect enthusiasts and will cost a fee of only €20 for the entire day (total bargain!).

Where: Cliffs of Moher & The Burren, Co. Clare

Event Info: All-day outing to the cliffs of Moher and the Burren in Co. Clare to see Puffins, Chough and much more. The group will meet in the car park of B&Q in Naas at 7.30am sharp for car-pooling.
